Day 12: Gospel Outreach at a Junk Shop in Manila

“…and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.”

– Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)

Today was another early start for the men. They left Pasig at 5:00 a.m. to join Vision Isaiah 58 in a Gospel Outreach in Sta. Cruz, Manila. They met with 2 volunteers who brought coffee and pandesal to distribute to homeless men and women at a Junk Shop. The men from our mission team were able to talk and hear the stories of these men and women. Some of them have lived on the streets for almost 20 years. Most of them turn to drugs to seek temporary relief from the realities they face and some of them have been in and out of prison for murder.

The team was able to pray with them, share the gospel to them and impart the reality that their current situation is only temporary, not because they will be helped and taken out of it by anyone, but because there is eternity after this life. They will be in a much worse situation if they leave this life without knowing Christ. Most of them have broken trust with people because of what they’ve been through, but in God, there is always hope. A hope for change, for a new life, a new beginning. May it be in this life or thereafter.
