Building up the Body of Christ

In the first section of Ephesians 4, Paul exhorts us to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Pastor Sonny outlines how we are called to maintain a unity between members of the body of Christ, and how Paul explains that God’s design for unity begins with Him, and that the unity of the church was designed to be a physical manifestation of the unity of the Holy Trinity. In Ephesians 4:7, Paul goes on to say that each member of the church is gifted differently by the grace of God, and that to “walk in a manner worthy of our calling” we must do that which we gifted by God to do, thus fulfilling our role within the body of Christ, and using those gifts to build up the church in unity.

“one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call — But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)”
