“We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. The Lord has made everything for his own purposes…”

Proverbs 16:1-4

The 2017 GBC Philippine Missions officially ended on Friday, July 14. Most of us felt good and accomplished in finishing the goals that were set before us. But looking back at the 2 weeks that we spent with brothers and sisters in Christ ministering to various people makes it undeniable that none of it was possible without God. It was He who gave the answer as He made our plans come to fruition and with so much more than we asked for. In spite of some challenges, God proved Himself faithful over and over again during this trip. The selfless love and humility of those we have met and worked with during the trip has deeply touched our hearts. Our thanks also goes to the members of Glencairn Baptist Church for their tireless prayers and support. All glory and praises to the One who makes all things possible!

Mission Team Reports

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God Reigns.’ ”  – Isaiah 52:7

Day 12: Gospel Outreach at a Junk Shop in Manila

“…and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.”

– Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)

Today was another early start for the men. They left Pasig at 5:00 a.m. to join Vision Isaiah 58 in a Gospel Outreach in Sta. Cruz, Manila. They met with 2 volunteers who brought coffee and pandesal to distribute to homeless men and women at a Junk Shop. The men from our mission team were able to talk and hear the stories of these men and women. Some of them have lived on the streets for almost 20 years. Most of them turn to drugs to seek temporary relief from the realities they face and some of them have been in and out of prison for murder.

Day 11: Gospel Outreach to cancer patients at the Philippine General Hospital Cancer Institute in Manila

“As we are intentional in our calling to visit the sick, we can trust that we are engaged in a divine task — souls are being loved and nurtured; we ourselves are being transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ; the gospel is being revealed through this ministry; and God is being glorified.”

– Brian Croft

Despite encountering delays during our travel from Benguet to Manila due to color-coding on our vehicles, flat tires and heavy rain, God brought us safely to our transient accommodations in Manila. After almost half a day of travelling, we made it to our place in Pasig City at around 11:00 p.m. Dinner arrived at 12:30 a.m and everyone finally got to turn in for the night at 1:00 a.m.

Days Seven, Eight, Nine: Church visitation at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Tuba, Benguet

“Pastors have a very special calling on their lives, and they need to be appreciated, cherished and encouraged as much as possible.”

Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Tuba, Benguet is one of the few churches/missionaries that our church supports. This church is led by one of the most hard-working and dedicated pastors I have met named Pastor Abiatar Pinlac. Pastor Bier started his ministry to the Igorots in Saddle, Tuba, Benguet back in 2001 where he painstakingly walks mountainous terrains for 3 hours to conduct Bible Studies in people’s homes. They now have a daughter church in Km 8, Tuba, Benguet.

Day Six: First Central Pangasinan Youth Conference

“Youth ministry is not about getting things accomplished – only the act of God can bring about the transformation we seek. Youth ministry is about participating deeply in young people’s lives as we await, together in suffering & joy, the coming of God.”

– Andrew Root

We had an early start today with much anticipation. During the planning stage, we were expecting about 500 youth to join our day-long conference with the theme “The Me I Want To Be: Becoming God’s Best Version Of You.” But God, in His faithfulness, brought 875 youth and pastors from 36 different churches to hear His message about how to close the gap between who we are right now to the person that God wants us to be.
