God is unquestionably our Heavenly Father, but He also reveals Himself in Scripture many times as a mother figure in His nurturing and compassionate nature. In a special Mother’s Day message, Bro. Jesse Hollington explores this and explains how all women are called to emulate God’s nature through spiritual motherhood by using their God-given nurturing abilities to mentor, disciple, and support others, emulate God’s love in their interactions, and embrace the vital role of spiritual nurturing within the church community. Just as newborns need both parents, new believers need spiritual mothers and fathers. Mature Christian women play an important role in nurturing and guiding those growing in faith.
Isaiah 49:15–16
15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.
Isaiah 66:13
13 As one whom his mother comforts,
so I will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
Luke 13:34
34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
